His source is himself, and apparently chemistry research he's done. But apparently this research hasn't taught him how PBS - known as phosphate buffered saline - is one of the best solvents to use because it matches human physiologically very well as far as electrolytic balance and pH.

Regular saline is almost as good. Problem is neither are great for long term use.
